- Course objectives
- Slovenian/Croatian/Serbian/Bulgarian language course focused on extending the vocabulary (with special emphasis on abstract notions), stress on active speech abilities and perfection of grammar knowledge.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this course students should be able to describe new grammar phenomena acquired in this semester and use the knowledge in spoken and written interaction. By the means of acquiring new vocabulary and grammar they can create text or speak about related topics. Students are able to understand written text and interpret it.
- Syllabus
- Slovenian:
- Language themes (basic and more difficult examples):
- 1. gender in Slovene,
- 2. Numeral in Slovene,
- 3. Cases, declination of nouns,
- 4. conjugation of verbs, negation,
- 5. tenses in Slovene (present, past and future tense),
- 6. Personal pronouns, declination,
- 7. graduation of adjective,
- 8. imperative,
- 9. propositions z, s, k, h,
- 10. the use of modal verbs,
- 11. writing cardinal and ordinal numeral,
- 12. direct and indirect speech.
- Croatian:
- Masculine nouns (type -i, -io, -o, -e, -u), numbers, present and past conditional, potential and unreal conditional sentences, formal and informal style, congruence, verbal regimen.
- Serbian:
- Grammar: repetition of knowledge gained in previous courses of Serbian language and also learning more tenses (aorist, imperfekat, pluskvamperfekat, futur II).
- Text: In the train. A couple talk. Indirect and direct speech.
- Text: Kalemegdan. Future tense, affirmative, negative and interrogative forms; perfect tense of verb "hteti (to want)".
- Text: Serbian regions. The relative pronouns - declination; demonstrative pronouns - declination.
- Text: Belgrade, a historic city. Aspects of verbs.
- Text: Tourist agency. Adverbs: time, way, cause, amount, comparison of adverbs.
- Text: Caution is the mother of wisdom.
- Text: New building site. Future II. (exact), forming; future sentences; perfect tense(repetition); correct writing of comas.
- Bulgarian:
- Reading comprehension and translation of short texts.
- 1. Grammar exercises on past tenses in Bulgarian language.
- 2. The passive.
- 3. Prepositions.
- 4. Verbs - transitive and intransitive.
- 5. Grammar exercises.
- 6. Tests. Basic phraseology.
- 7. Specific prepositions.
- 8. The system of numbers.
- 9. Specific usage of Bulgarian past tenses.

- Teaching methods
- Seminar (four hours per week), home preparation, in the seminar a combination of teacher-led activities and student-centered/group learning activities will be employed.

- Regular attendance, homework and home preparation required. Upon fulfilling all the listed requirements students must pass a final test.
