- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to introduce students to writing of a Latin text about topics related to the classical philology. The aim of this course is to acquire a broad and in-depth vocabulary, which is necessary to formulate a social sciences-oriented scholarly text in Latin. To learn how to search and to use properly rarer terms and to construct an intelligible and correct Latin text. To extend and apply the skills from Latin stylistics while writing Latin text.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this course students will be able to:
- acquire sufficient vocabulary for expressing a social sciences-oriented scholarly text in Latin;
- search a rarer term in a dictionary and specialized handbooks;
master the basic Latin stylistics and formulate a correct sentence in Latin;
- write a Latin summary of a scholarly text. - Syllabus
- 1) Latin Phraseology.
- 2) Characteristics of various types of Latin styles, special attention will be paid to scholarly texts.
- 3) Neolatin texts.
- 4) Writing short Latin texts.
- 5) Writing a Latin summary of a scholarly text.

- Teaching methods
- The course includes practice in translating and interpretation of Latin specialized text - e. g. linguistic texts into Czech, but is focused on translation from Czech to Latin. Regular work at home and activi collaboration during the lessons is expected.
- Assessment methods
- To obtain the Credits: claas attendance (75%), homeworks,class discussion and semestral paper in Latin (at least 1800 characters).
