Course objectives
The seminar will point at the often questionable role of alcohol in today's culture across almost all the continents. On the one hand there is alcohol as "cultural heritage", while the government does not collect the appropriate taxes (wine); on the other hand alcohol is an enormously important economic product, at the same time featuring in the role of a potential instigator of serious addictions. The main focus of the seminar is to point at the role of alcohol as artistic inspiration, narrative plot, or the object of marketing and advertisement.
Learning outcomes

will have acquired a basic awareness of the culturally-specific treatment of alcohol on an almost global level
