- Course objectives
- The goal of the course is to familiarize the students with basic grammatical phenomena in the Czech Sign language. The lectures focus on the practice of grammar and basic lexicon simultaneously. The seminar LgCZJ10 Language practice II is dedicated to the lexicon acquisition. The explanation of the grammar is based on the commentary of the video recordings with Czech Sign language texts.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course, students know how to use the simplest grammatical structures in CSL and the corresponding lexicon. They understand the grammar they use and they can explain them (in Czech).
- Syllabus
- thematic areas: 1. Family: family relations (broader family), family members description, pets; 2. personal information: Who am I? My CV; 3. Seasons: seasonal activities, weather, clothes according to seasons; 4. traveling: Czech Republic (our country and its culture), traveling and stay in hotels, famous cities and countries of the world, their culture, services while traveling; 5. Meals and drinks: drinks, meals, basic types of fruits and vegetables; 6. University: organization structure of the university, studies and student activities. Grammar: auxiliaries, incorporation of numerals, the sign HOP, expressing distance, non-manuals for size, numerals for order (age), specific signs, the use of reduplication for intensification, metaphor, timeline (human life), aspectual modification, simultaneous articulation of two one-hand signs, classifiers and size and shape specifiers.
