Course objectives
The main objectives of the course are the following:
become aware of the importance of libraries and archives in scientific research;
understand the sytem of libraries and archives in Czech Republic and organisation of their fonds;
understand the basics of working with sources and literature and use the results for their own research work.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, a student will be able to:
- be oriented in scientific sources in libraries and archives;
- understand to specifics of scientific texts, their creation and work with them; - cite literature and archival sources in professional works correctly.
Syllabus
  • Sources - their definition and classification;
  • System of archives in Czech Republic, types of archive's documents, types of archival aids for researchers;
  • Principles of the work with sources and scientific literature - criticism, interpretation and outlets, practical exercises;
  • Types of printing materials; types and organisation of libraries in Czech Republic; tapes of librarian aids for readers; introduction to cataloguing, bibliographical quotation;
  • Contemporary legal standard in public librarienship in Czech Republic.
