- Course objectives
- The course is focused on presenting the theoretical background, including the research traditions of the description of the syntactic structure of the language. Attention is paid to dependency grammar with the main focus on the grammatical description of German. Valence is presented as a means and method of describing grammatical structure. The seminars are devoted to the syntactic analysis of contemporary German texts.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon Completition of the course, the student will be able to: analyze the syntactic structure of the German sentence; to distinguish sentence elements and their functional relations; explain the role of valency in the syntax and the description of syntactic structures; to summarize important concepts in modern syntactic research; to utilise the knowledge of syntactic relations to an adequate comprehension of complex sentence constructions.

- concepts and methods of sentence description, dependence, valence;
- sentences and infinitive sentence constructions;
