Course objectives
The aim of the course is to present classical and recent knowledge in the field of social psychology. Part of the course is aimed also to application into practice and everyday life. Discussion and critical thinking about socio-psychological phenomena is an integral part of the course.
Learning outcomes
Students will acquire knowledge in the following areas: - the subject of social psychology and its importance for social educators and workers,
- intraindividual processes and their overlap into interpersonal relationships,
- interindividual processes such as communication, persuasion
- group processes, in particular the structure and dynamics of the social group,
- intergroup processes, especially stereotypes and prejudices, gender aspects.
Students will strengthen their skills in a number of areas and will be able to: - apply knowledge of the principles of the functioning of the human psyche to the process of getting to know oneself and others,
- identify positive personality potential and critical pitfalls in one's own mental states,
- apply the acquired psychological knowledge in the process of self-regulation,
- actively engaging in social interaction and promoting its positive features,
- recognize the psychosocial resources and limits of a person and respect their autonomy.
Syllabus
  • Subject and actual topics of social psychology. Historical grounding of social psychology, discussion of nature versus nurture.
  • Intrapersonal processes: Cognitive processes, personality traits and other personality characteristics related to interpersonal interaction (emotional intelligence, empathy, etc.)
  • Interpersonal processes: Communication, persuasion, attitudes - theoretical approaches, theories and their measurement.
  • Group processes: structure and typology of social group. Properties of social group. Group dynamics. Influence of social group and its risks (conformity, social obedience, deindividuation etc.)
  • Intergroup processes: stereotypes and prejudices, gender aspects.

Assessment methods
Active participation in lectures(25% of evaluation). Elaboration of research for selected social psychological research (25% of evaluation). Final written test (50% of evaluation).
