- Course objectives
- The course acquiants students with the natural, political, demographic and social factors of the economic development of Poland. It also focuses on the successes and failures of the transformation process in Poland after 1989. However, the main aim of the lectures is to explain the main problems of the basic sectors of the Polish economy – agriculture, industry, services and so-called knowledge (quarternary) sector – and their spatial distribution.
- Learning outcomes
- After completion of this course student will be able to:
- to describe the positive and negative aspects of the geographical location of Poland,
- to understand the main economic and social issues and the spatial distribution of selected economic and social phenomena,
- to assess the economic situation and current economic and social trends in Poland,
- to clarify the causes and consequences of regional differentiation of selected economic and social phenomena and indicators,
- to explain the successes and failures of the economic transformation in Poland after 1989,
- to use economic terms in Polish,
- to develop independently the acquired knowledge and skills. - Syllabus

- Teaching methods
- Lectures are combined with in-class discussions and excersises. Specialization Professional and Business Polish: compulsory presentation (10-15 minutes) of the seminar paper (9 000 signs without spaces).
- Assessment methods
- Specialization Professional and Business Polish: written exam (65 % of the final grade) and presentation and defence of the seminar paper (35 % of the final grade). Other students: oral exam (100 %) + an extra bonus for presentation (+15%). Two unexcused absences are allowed. Graduation scale: A 100–90 %, B 89–85 %, C 84–75 %, D 74–70 %, E 69–60 %, F (fail) 59–0 %.
