Course objectives
The aim of the course is to familiarize students of German translation studies with the pitfalls of legal translation and the basic terminology of civil, commercial, criminal and administrative law in Czech and German through the translation of the most frequently translated legal documents.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to: - translate simple legal texts from German into Czech and vice versa - reflect on the pitfalls of translating legal texts into German - deal with partial and zero equivalence - reflect on the methodological background of legal translation
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to legal translation 2. Donation contract, contract of sale 3. Lease agreement, tenancy agreement 4. Memorandum of association, memorandum of association, articles of association 5. Judgment on the return of the minor to the place of habitual residence 6. Order of remand in custody 7. criminal judgment 8. decision on prohibition of residence 9. Final test
