- Course objectives
- The course offers a systematic overview of the basic grammatical phenomena of Modern Greek phonology, morphology and syntax. The course includes the practice of discussed grammatical phenomena using the grammatical exercises, reading and writingof modern greek texts, conversation and writing od Modern Greek. The main aim of the course is to make students familiar with basic grammatical phenomena of Modern Greek language and be able to describe nad aply them in language communication (CEFR A1-B1).
- Learning outcomes
- At the and of the course, student will reach the level B1 and:
- will be able to connect the discussed grammatical phenomena and the new vocabulary with the known and aply them in spoken and written Modern Greek;
- will be able to understand Modern Greek texts of appropriate level (A2-B1), to interpret them and translate from Modern Greek into Czech and short simple texts from Czech into Modern Greek;
- will have mastered basic Modern Greek language linguistic terminology;
- will be capable of explaining grammatical phenomena they were taught. - Syllabus
- Grammar: Basics of Modern Greek Language, lessons 18-28: irregular substantives and adjectives, perfect, pluperfect, future perfect, multi-stem verbs, the conditional, subjunctive for expressing wishes, the potential, contracted irregular verbs, 1st conjugation passive – a detailed survey, conditional sentences, clauses of result.

- Teaching methods
- The course has a form of a seminar and lectures. Homework is required during semester – students prepare assigned grammatical exercises and short translations from Modern Greek into Czech and vice versa.
- Assessment methods
- Requirements for obtaining the credit: preparation of assignments within the deadline, passing a a credit written test (min. 75%) and at least 70% participation in lessons. Final written exam lasts 90 minutes and contains a translation from Czech to Greek and vice versa, filling in the correct form of various parts of speech in sentences and interpretation of grammatical phenomena.
