- Course objectives
- The course provides students with normative grammar of the Attic Greek dialect of the Classical period, to a degree which is necessary for understanding Greek texts. At the end of the course students should be able to: reproduce nominal and verbal paradigms studied within the course (vide syllabus of the course); explain grammatical rules studied within the course; recognize grammatical categories of the morphological forms studied within the course; translate Greek sentences and simple texts into Czech; describe the grammatical structure of a clause.

- 1. the alphabet, pronunciation of Greek, diacritical and punctuation marks 2. grammatical structure of Greek 3. O-stem declination 4. conjugation of non-contracted vowel verbs and consonant verbs in present tense active and mediopassive 5. accusative-with-infinitive constructions 6. A-stem declination 7. imperfect tense active and middle voice, the augment 8. expressing irreality 9. A-stems: masculine and a impurum 10. present mediopassive participle, absolute genitive construction 11. present indicative of the verb to be, formation of adverbs 12. nominative-with-infinitive construction 13. strong aorist

- Teaching methods
- Lectures, practice (translating, grammar exercises). Regular class attendance and homework are required.
- Assessment methods
- Students’ active attendance is necessary. Credits are obtained by passing a written test (the first 5 lessons of the textbook Lexis). The test consists of a translation of sentences from Greek into Czech, identifying verb forms exercise and a translation of verb forms, declension of nouns and adjectives.
