- The course is intended for those students who know Russian at minimum B2 level that’s why it’s not recommended to the first-year bachelor students.

- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to provide general overview of linguoculturological movements and to familiarize with basic linguarealia. The course is focused on the connection of cultural and historical phenomena with their reflection in the language and on the correct interpretation and semantization of language units based on the knowledge of Russian culture.
- Learning outcomes
- After finishing the course, the student will be able:
- to distinguish and to use basic linguoculturological terms;
- to describe linguoculturological methods;
- to have an overview about Russian basic concepts;
- to interpret and to explain the meaning of the particular precedential expressions and statements;
- to connect cultural and historical phenomena with their reflection in the language. - Syllabus
- 1. The linguistic picture of the world. Linguoculturology.
- 2. History of linguoculturalology. 3. Conceptosphere, concepts as a subject of linguoculturalology.
- 4. Component analysis of lexical meaning. Associative dictionaries.
- 5. Discursive words as a subject of research.
- 6. Key words of culture (zaodno, sobiraťsja, ujut, avosʼ).
- 7. Expression of national-cultural specificity at different levels of language (morphemics, word formation, morphology, syntax).
- 8. Linguorealia (precedent statements and winged words from Russian and Soviet literature, movies, etc.). Russian and Soviet literature, movies, Soviet clichés).
- 9. Memes as a subject of study in linguoculturology. 10. Euphemisms and their classification. Taboo. Typical Russian euphemisms.
- 11. Active processes in modern Russian from the point of view of linguocultural specificity.
- 12. The Word of the Year contest and the Dictionary of Changes as a reflection of the modern world.
