- Course objectives
- The aim of the course General Methodology is to acquaint doctoral students with the methods of linguistic research, in the form of direct teaching and study of recommended literature. Direct teaching will focus mainly on the method of structural analysis and methodological problems of comparing Slavic languages. The graduate of this course will gain an overview of individual methods, will be able not only to discuss them theoretically, but also to apply them in their own linguistic research. The output of the course is also a written seminar work in the range of about 10 standard pages focused on the description and analysis of the methods of the dissertation. The evaluation of this work together with the discussion will be a part of the doctoral seminar in the given semester of study.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course student will be able to:
- differentiate between various linguistic methods;
- identify the main methodological principles related to their doctoral research;
- select appropriate methods for their research task;
- justify the selection of the method that will be used;
- explain the basics of the selected method;
- be able to formulate a research question;
- present their doctoral research. - Syllabus
