  • This course follows the general shift of American literature from realism and naturalism to high modernism. The participants will read and discuss texts that have been traditionally regarded as some of the best and most important in American writing (e.g. Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn), as well as texts that represent only recent acquisitions to the canon of American literature (e.g. works by Kate Chopin or Charlotte Perkins Gilman). Readings for seminars will be from an anthology of American literature.
