- Course objectives
- Course description. mgr.Balaštík: The seminar will focus especially on the reading of important studies in literary theory (R. Jakobson, J. Mukařovský, R. Welek, Terence Hawkes, Milan Jankovič, Northrop Frye, Paul Ricoeur, Fr. Miko) and the interpretation of key terminology of the field. The aim is to make the student acquainted with basic ways of theoretical thinking about literature and art generally. The second part of the seminar will focus on the interpretation of concrete poetic texts.
doc. Trávníček: Each seminar will be devoted to the discussion of one notion, e.g. story, theme, verse, ballad, horror, novel, lyrics, value, etc. The starting point of the discussions will be provided by individual students' research papers which should include the definition and trace the genesis of the notion in question as well as comment on its working in concrete Czech literary texts (these text will be agreed upon in advance and will be identical for all students). The second part of the course will focus on textual analysis and various types of interpretation (e.g. via verse analysis, narrator-characters relationship, semantics of literary subject, literary time and space)..
mgr. Přibáňová: The aim of the seminar is to equip the student with instruments for analysis and interpretation of a literary text and acquaint them with the basic problems and terms of literary theory. The student should learn about various ways of approaching a text (formalism, structuralism, hermeneutics, reception aesthetics, semiotic analysis, deconstruction) and master basic terminology as well as elementary principles of working with a text. The seminar focuses on the work with prosaic texts, although not exclusively.
mgr. Urválková: The seminar will focus on the work with literary texts (poetic, prosaic and dramatic), which will be analysed and interpreted with the use of the student's knowledge of basic terminology of poetics. The seminar will partly consist of reading chosen articles and papers in literary theory, with the help of which an attempt will be made to explain various methods of approaching a literary text. - Syllabus
