Course objectives
Course description. Learning about the literary work of art through studying its sources and creative progress is a productive method of literary scholarship. The seminars will aim at getting better insight into different methods used by positivism, structural and genetic methodology.
Syllabus
  • Syllabus: 1. Being interested in the genesis of a work of art - why and how? 2. Vodička's conception of genesis; genetic methodology. 3. Foreign literary influence - the works read by Němcová (Goethe: Faust, Boccaccio: Dekameron, Gutzkow: Rytíři ducha, George Sand). 4. Contemporary sources - philosophers, ironists, sneakers, emancipated women, soldiers. 5. The sources of creative process - Obrazy z okolí domažlického, Domácí nemoc, Tale of Viktorka, Erben: Kytice, non-fiction (Mošner: Pěstounka), ethnography (Hanuš: O svěcení výročních svátků starých Slovanů, calendar Koleda 1852).
