Course objectives
Students will be working with theoretical terms on the basis of excerpts from dictionaries of literary theory and main theoretical texts. Several model ways of interpretation will be shown: based on studying verse semantics, the categories of time, space and subject and on different modes of narrating.

  • Syllabus: 1. Definition of interpretation; the history of interpretation. 2. Presentation of some basic works dealing with interpreatation - Plato: Ion (Czech translation 1941), Augustinus Aurelius: Confessiones (Vyznání,1926, 1992), Hans-Georg Gadamer: Wahrheit und Methode (Tübingen 1990), Eco - Rorty - Culler - Brooke-Rose: Interpretation and Overinterpretation (Cambridge 1992, Slovak translation Bratislava 1995), Günter Figal: Hermeneutická svoboda (Prague 1994) and other texts.

Podmínky ke kolokviu: seminární práce (7-12 stran) a její ústní obhajoba, případně drobné referátky během semestru, účast 70 procent.
