- Course objectives
- Using different texts in the seminar it will be tried to follow the changes of Czech Romantism from the end of the 18th century till the 1850s, concidering the role of Romantism in other European literatures. The main stress will lay on the context of the National Enlightment and the place of nationalist Romantism of Jungmann and his followers, and Máchas subjective Romatism. not only exclusive works will be dealt with, but works of trivial literature as well.

- - nationalistic Romantism vs. subjective Romantism
- - continuity with other European literatures vs. the specificity od Czech literature of the National Enlightment (horror and Romatism, Sentimentalism, Biedermeier)
- - genre differentiation of Czech prose: the needs of the reading public and idealized views of the quality of Czech written literature (Jungmann: Slovesnost)
