Basic introduction into Christian Iconography

Syllabus

Basic terms: ikonography and ikonology, attribute, symbol, personification, allegory, emblem
survey of the iconographical handbooks and basic literature (see bibliography)
literary sources of the Christian ikonography - Bible (Old and New Testament), lifes of the Saints (Legenda Aurea), teological and patristic literature, emblematic handbooks
presentation and typology of the sacral themes from the Old and New Testament
scenes from the life of the Saints, from the Church history
attributes of the Saints
Christian personifications, allegories and emblems
