- Course objectives
- The course follows the history of the English language from the earliest stages of Indo-European, Primitive Germanic and West Germanic, via the Old, Middle, and New English periods to Modern English. The phonological, grammatical, and lexical developments are discussed in their mutual relationships. Recommended literature: Josef Vachek - Historický vývoj angličtiny (8th edition); Josef Hladký - An Old English, Middle English, and Early New English Reader (3rd edition).
