- Course objectives
- The course is based on the comparative study of Czech translations of selected literary texts. The participants will be asked to compare all existing Czech translations of a given literary work and draw conclusions about the particular texts as well as about translation in general. Each session will focus on a specific problem typical of the analysed text (eg., choice of the source text edition, form and style in poetry, intertextuality, translatability). The students will also have to translate short passages of the texts themselves. The method of work is identical with the "Translation Analysis B" course; the two courses differ in the texts analyzed and can be taken in any order. Translations analyzed: Hardy, Coleridge, Woolf, Whitman, Joyce.
