- Course objectives
- In the seminar we will interpret together a variety of texts from old Czech literature of different genres (spiritual song, legend, chronicle) and times (10th to 18th century), which are connected through the theme of St. Václav. Thus we will not be interested in "historic", but "literary" St. Václav. We will attempt at following varieties of the St. Václav myth and we will note their part in forming and changing the St. Václav tradition, which will form a basis for our discussion concerning the nature of the link between literature and memory as well as the meaning of historical consciousness and tradition.
