Course objectives
The survey course will focus on the history of the Czech cinematography and on the trends of development in the Czech film untill 1945. First we will draw the basic historical outline in different periods and then concentrate od the typology of the contemporary production: poetic film, psychological film, realistic film, historical film, pseudosocial film, film inspired by pulp production, film representing nationalism and cosmopolitanism, film avantgarde etc. We will also focus on the production of important filmmakers: Karel Anton, Gustav Machatý, Josef Rovenský, Martin Frič, Otakar Vávra etc. and personalities of Czech Cameraman School. Contemporary mass culture will be also part of our interest so that we will be able to analyze numerous films directed towards ,normal, audience.
