Course objectives
Sudents should obtain general information about specific features of medieval European literatue and national literatures (according to the field of interest) and about principal methods and trends in their study.
Syllabus
  • Classical roots of the medieval literature (Plato, Cicero, Boethius); Christian roots of the medieval literature (Bible, patristic literature, Augustinus); Contribution of benedictine cloisters to medieval literature; The role of rhetoric in medieval literature; The Carolingian and Ottonian Renaissance, Humanism of the 12. century, Renaissance and Humanism; The relationshib between medieval Latin literature and the literatures in national languages; Medieval poetry (religious and secular); Carmina Burana and its analogies in the national literatures; Hagiography; Woman in medieval literature; What is "locus communis"?

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Písemná práce v rozsahu min. 10 stran, počítačová sazba, velikost fontu 12, řádkování 1,5 - s poznámkovým aparátem a seznamem pramenů a literatury! Jako téma lze vybrat ketékoli ze souborných témat uvedených v "osnově" nebo na kterýkoli rozvíjejí pojem z těchto témat, vše s ohledem na specializaci doktoranda. Kolokvium o odevzdané práci a o kterémkoli z témat "Osnovy".
