Course objectives
This course will focus on specific questions and issues raised by particular texts of cognitive film theory. Special attention will be paid to those theories that account for emotional response to film (i.e. those of Murray Smith, Carl Plantinga, Torben Grodal, Ed Tan). However, rather than sticking to a monolithic perspective, we will read the respective texts on a contrasting background of other theoretical texts or contexts, so that we can better see both their applicability and their drawbacks.
