Course objectives
The seminar should provide basic information necessary for the study of the field as well as help the students develop practical skills - working with primary and secondary literature, getting acquainted with basic (past and current) literary-studies publications and magazines, and catching up with recent literary production. In its practical part it focuses on the specific features of theoretical style and its genres, and to a certain extent it uses and enhances the students' knowledge from the parallel lecture (especially in poetics). The intention of dr. Bednářová's course is a presentation of the literary science study and introduction to the basic concepts, information and practical skills, needed to practice the profession. In the course will take a part also a presentation of the libraries, bibliographies, magazines, work books, older and contemporary dictionaries; also will take a part the survey of personalities, who are representative for the discipline, as well as recommendation how to structure own scientific text. This course will finish with an excursion to the Moravian library. Requirements: a short essay about some of contemporary literary magazines, physical presence (max. 3 absences), to be prepared for the course ant to take an active part in the discussion.
Syllabus
  • The way to information (libraries, basic literature); textology; textual criticism (also in relation to the Bible, especially in the Czech context); bibliography; working with reference literature; citation rules; notes; advice for the preparation of seminar papers and essays; practical training in theoretical style in which the students' knowledge of poetics will be used. dr. Bednářová's course basis: 1. An introductory information; the study of the Czech literature on the FF MU. 2. The literary science and its subspecialties. 3. The road to information: libraries and bibliographies. 4. The basic work books, history and dictionaries. 5. The book as an object, Czech publishing houses and editions. 6. Textology: from the script to the book. 7. The key personalities of the Czech literary science. 8. A chosen survey of the older magazines. 9. A history of reading, the conception of the reader and the text. 10. The principles of the professional text's conception. 11. The bibliographical data and its forms. 12. Essay, critique, study. 13. An excursion.

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Mgr. Tvrdík: Podmínkou udělení zápočtu je kromě účasti v semináři (80%) přednesení krátkého ústního referátu (vybrané časopisy, současná knižní produkce, odborná práce či významná osobnost české literární vědy) a seminární práce.
