- Course objectives
- K.Dvořáková:The contents of this seminar are reading and interpretations of selected texts, originated between the 9th and 18th century. M. Škarpová:In the seminar chosen texts will be read from old Czech literature and it will be attempted to interpret them, while taking into account different cultural and social contexts and a diffent systém of aesthetic norms which form the basis of these texts. In the voyage across centuries we will mainly attempt at understanding common things and respecting differencies. Another impact should lay on the creation of students own, personal picture of Czech literature of the Middle Ages. The texts will also serve as a material upon the notion of natinal literature, of literature and memory, the importance of author in interpretation; written and oral literature; literary development; continuity and discontinuity,... PhDr.Bočková: The seminar focuses on mapping the basic tendencies in the development of old literature in a wider context of the culture as a whole. It focuses on several genres (seen both from synchronic and diachronic perspective) and attempts to characterise the basic contours of thinking, aesthetic categories and genre system in each particular cultural epoch. The starting point of the work in the seminar will be the interpretation of the text, which is the representant of the chosen productive genre. The text will be analysed from the points of view above-mentioned, to make other specific features more visible in the literature of the Middle Ages and early Modern Ages. Reading will be chosen from modern critical editions, but also from original handwritten and printed texts.
- Syllabus
- K. Dvořáková: On the basis of selected texts we will observe the development of literature in our area - from the chronological, language, genre and functional point of view. M. Škarpová:The choice of texts will follow different criteria: chronology (from the 9th to the 18th century), language (literature in Czech, Latin, German), genre (legend, chronicle, love and spiritual poetry, drama, travel book, ..). Dr. Bočková: We will respect the chronological order of the texts which we will be iterpreted. The aim of the seminar is to create the idea on the form of genelogical system a its transformations. We will pay attention to texts which represent the main genres of the genelogical system in all the epoches of the czech literature until the 18th century.
