- Course objectives
- Elementary information about purposes and methods of language classification. Three approaches: typological, areal and genetic. Principles of lexicostatistics and glottochronology. Systematical overview of all language families with the most important languages, classified genetically in higher taxonomical units.
- Syllabus
- Genetical classification of languages of the world, its principles and methods. Genetical and areal affinity of languages. Models of convergetion and language affinity. Methods for finding of genetical affinity, methods of genetical classification. Survey of standard language families and hypotetical higger affinity classes. Nostratic , dene-causasian, austro-asian, indo-pacifician, amerindian, khoisanic macrophylas.
