- Course objectives
- The course will look at a selection of short stories, focusing mainly on writers from the earlier part of the twentieth century and contemporary authors. The aim will be to explore and compare their formal elements and relate them to the experiential areas with which they engage. This will involve a brief intial exposure to elements of narrative theory.

- Credit requirements: Class contribution (30%); response paper(500-800 words; to be submitted by end of TEACHING semester)(20%); essay (to be submitted by exam date; 5-8 pages)(50%). No essay required for zapocet.Teaching of the course will involve an initial exposition of elements of narrative theory followed by discussion of the relevant texts in subsequent classes.
