Course objectives
The concept of the industrial revolution, basic sources and literature, the inclusion of the Czech Lands into the process of capitalistic industrialization in the Central European region, textile manufacturing: wool, flax and cotton, iron working, engineering works, coal mining, glass works and sugar mills, railway transportation as a precondition for the industrial revolution.

  • 2. The concept of the industrial revolution in historical literature
  • 3. The textile industry in Central Europe in the first half of the 19th century
  • 4. The importance of the steam engine to the industrial revolution
  • 5. The role of foreign experts in the industrial revolution
  • 6. The woollen industry around Brno and Liberec
  • 7. The cotton industry and locations within the Czech lands
  • 8. The flax industry around Trutnovsko and Šumpersko
  • 9. Silk and jute in the industrial revolution
  • 10. Textile factories
  • 11. Ironmongery, iron and steel industry, and coal mining
  • 12. The sugar industry as an example from the food industry
  • 13. Transport and the building of the railways
