Course objectives
The course is an introduction into the topic of sociology of family. It introduces selected sociological theories and up-to-date empirical data related to the Czech family. Selected findings are then applied on the sphere of family policy. At the end of the course, students are able to search for empirical data related to various phenomena of family life and evaluate adequacy of related social policy measures.

Divorces, incomplete families, repeated marriages. 6. Family and gender. 7. Family, economy and labor market. 8. Family, education, and lifestyle. 9. Domestic violence. 10. Family and state. Family policy. 11. Family policy in the Czech Republic. 12. Family policies in other countries.

Assessment methods
Course type: The course is organized as a combination of lectures and seminars. During the course, students give presentations of their seminar work based on empirical data search and interpretation related to various topics of sociology of family. Course evaluation: Submission of a written seminar paper and a written test.
