Course objectives
The course is focused on fairy tales written by czech writers who decorated their literary works with their own illustrations.
The main objectives of the course are the following:
- to broaden students´ knowledge in the children literature;
- to introduce specific features of fairy tales written by illustrators-writers to students and point to the interconection between literary and illustrated part of these fairy tales;
- to learn how to cope with primary and secondary literature.
At the end of this course students should be able to:
- understand the evolution of illustrated children books;
- undersatnd the evolution of modern fairy tales;
- point out specific features of fairy tales written by illustrators-writers;
- orientate in contemporary fairy tales;
- analyze literary texts with the assistance of the secondary literature.
Syllabus
  • (1 - 2) Theoretical definition of the course - term clarification, exposition of the position of illustrations of the children literature and specific features of creations of illustrators-writers, introduction of the analysis method.
  • (3 - 12) Analysis of concrete fairy tales.

Teaching methods
A short oral presentation of reports, class discussion, a written seminar work.
Assessment methods
The course is concluded by an assessment. Active attendance of classes is necessary as well as working out of an essay.
