- Course objectives
- Around 1400, Prague became one of the leading European centers of book illumination. After an initial acqainting with the topic (manuscript as an object, typology of illuminated manuscript, medieval book culture), the lecture will present a survey of development of the book illumionation. Typical examples will serve to demonstrate the changes in the character of illuminations, as depending on the changes in cultural history of BOhemian lands.

Book illumination around 1400 5. The Antwerp Bible as a stylistic turn 6. Masters of the Gerona Martyrology and illuminating workshops in Paris and in the North Italy 7. Hasenburg Master - new types and "recycled" compositions 8. Sigismund´s Vatican Comestor and the manuscripts of the 1430s 9. Influence of the reform movement on book illumination in BOhemia and Moravia 10. Hand-written book after the introduction of print 11. Franciscan-observant order and the book culture 12. Codex of Jena (visit to the exhibition Art of the Bohemian Reformation)
