- Course objectives
- In the course, students acquaint with theoretical definitition of general terms of documentation, information, communication and with their application to museum practice. At the end of the course students will be able to describe the specifities of museum documentation and compare them with the other methods of documentation in related branches (archival science, library science, monument preservation, nature preservation). They will understand the process of museum document origin, his thesaurisation and use in museum presentation. Students will explain meaning of particular museum documents within the museums activities and they will be capable to analyse their content.
- Syllabus
- Museum documentation as term and its content; museum documentation in context with other basic functions of museums.
- Terminology, methodology, literature.
- Historical development of museum documentation: origin of collection's documentation in ancient world; documentation in Middle Ages; Changes in conception and contents of museum documentation in development of museums.
- Museum documentation in 20.th century. Basic terms (information, document, museum object), comparison of terms, different conception and definitions.
- Museum documentation in Czech Republic and abroad.
- Museum documentation and specific problems in different scientific disciplines.
- a) humanities and social sciences: prehistory, history, ethnography, literature, music, theatre, arts, history of science and technology.
- b) natural sciences (systematic and ecologicalconception): geology, zoology, botany, anthropology.
- Documentation - primary, secondary, accompaniyng.
- Collection documentation; documentation and its characterisation; chronological documentation, cataloguing.
- Systems and methods of collection's documentation; problems of description and clasification.
- Work with documentation's resources and aids (documentary cards, computers and its use)
