- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- Course description: Training in practical techniques of cleaning, conservation and restoration of archaeological artefacts, especially ceramics, but also including metals and organic materials. The basics of drawing.
- Syllabus
- 1. Types of archaeological relics and materials these were made of. Methods of dealing with archaeological finds and their preservation prior to conservation. Characteristics of organic and inorganic materials. 2. Methods of conservation of individual materials (stone, clay, pottery, metal, bone, wood, textile, leather, glass etc.). An outline of new experimental methods of conservation and restoration. 3.-7. Laboratory practice: washing and drying of pottery fragments, sticking together, completing and painting of pottery. 8.-9. Laboratory practice: casting of small items, preparation of mould and plaster, casting itself. 10.-12. Laboratory practice: principles of primeval finds processing, their classification and recording within settlement features. 13.-15. Utilization of numeric description and practical processing of minor find complexes by means of a code.
