Course objectives
At the end of this course, students: will be competent to explain the history of the formation of the Orthodox Church, of its dogmatics, of the basic organizational forms and the relation with the profane authority in the Byzantine empire, of its missionary appeal
- will be able to identify the causes of the formation of the Byzantine oekoumene
- will be able to describe the development of this oekoumene until the year 1453
- will be competent to identify the reasons of the formation of the national Orthodox Churches and the basic problems of their history
- will be able to conceive the specifics of the „Orthodox Europe“
- will be able to understand the development of the Orthodox ecclesiastic art and the Orthodox liturgy.
