- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to:
reproduce nominal and verbal paradigms studied within the course (vide syllabus of the course);
explain grammatical rules studied within the course;
use basic Latin grammatical terminology associated with the grammar studied within the course;
recognize grammatical categories of the morphological forms studied within the course;
translate easy Latin sentences into Czech;
describe the grammatical structure of a clause. - Syllabus
- 1. Latin and its evolution, periods, pronunciation, alphabet. Grammatical categories of noun, basic terminology. 1st declension.
- 2. Introduction to conjugation, grammatical categories of verb. Verbs of the 1st conjugation: present, imperfect and future indicative.
- 3. Nouns of the 2nd declension. Adjectives of the 1st and 2nd declencions and their adverbs. Verb esse and its compounds.
- 4. Verbs of the 2nd conjugation: present, imperfect and future indicative.
- 5. Nouns of the 3rd declension.
- 6. Verbs of the 3rd and 4th conjugation: present, imperfect and future indicative. Deponent verbs. TEST.
- 7. Adjectives of the 3rd declension. Adverbs. Present participle.
- 8. Personal pronouns, selected demonstrative pronouns.
- 9. Construction of double accusative and nominative. Accusative-with-infinitive construction.
- 10. Interrogative and relative pronouns. TEST.
- 11. Nouns of the 4th and 5th declension.
- 12. Numerals.
- 13. Revision.
- Final test. 10. Future tense.
