- Course objectives
- Through this subjetct the student has the chance to practice linguistic skills as reading and oral comprehension, which are quite reduced in time in the language subjects due to a lack of time. Once the student has passed this subject and Katalanstina III, he/she would be able to successfully write the exam for the "elemental/vantage" certificate of the Institut Ramon Llull.
- Syllabus
- At the end of this course the student should be able to understand many conferences and speeches and even follow a complex argument if the topic is reasonably familiar as well as understanding most TV newscasts and current programs, understanding films using a standard register, etc. The student should also be able to read articles and reports on contemporary issues, taking into account authors’ viewpoints and understand contemporary literature. The student should be able to communicate with a certain spontaneity and fluency, facilitating interaction with native speakers, actively participate in conversations regarding familiar topics, present and defend his/her views as well as presenting clear, detailed descriptions of a wide range of subjects related to their interests and being able to explain his/her opinion of an issue and explain the advantages and disadvantages of different options. The student should further be able to write a clear, detailed text about a wide range of issues related to his/her interests, write an essay or report and convey information and/or provide reasons for or against a given view and write letters providing new facts or describing an experience.

- Teaching methods
- Seminar: application of theoretical knowledge on authentic texts (recordings). During their presentations students show their ability to interconnect on their own their theoretical knowledge and practical analysis of a specific text.
