- Course objectives
- The course follows the text of Peter Handke "Don Juan (erzählt von ihm selbst)", Frankfurt am Main, 2004; Czech translation 2006. Its interpretation will enable students to testify the capacity of theories of prose from the sphere of Russian formalism. Comparison will be made to the classical representation of the Don Juan theme (Mozart/Da Ponte), and to the original version in the film by Chaun brothers "Don Gio". Students will be lead to thinking about narration that makes subject of itself, one of the axes of modern and postmodern prose.
- Syllabus
- 1. What is postmodern in literature and what is not. Thomas Bernhard and Peter Handke 2. Alienation and the tradition of deterioration of the tradition in the Russian formalist theory of literature and film 3. Don Juan myth in the metamorphoses of time 4. Mozart/Da Ponte: "Don Giovanni", performace, basic analysis 5. Chauns: "Don Gio", screening and analysis 6. Handke's analytical narration about narration
