Course objectives
The course is devoted to the literary production of Jan Neruda, main representative of "The May school". During the course there will be presented author‘s poetry, prose, dramas and critical works (from comparative point of view). Students will get a general background about Neruda‘s activity in constituting program of „the May school“and they will learn about the dynamic in the development of the Czech literature in the second part of 19th century.
Syllabus
  • Each class will be devoted to the books of Jan Neruda and other authors; concrete specification will be given during the first class (according to the students’ experience). Students will acquire Neruda’s way of writing, they will analyze his works in the context of the whole „May school“and they will be able to interpret his works.
