Course objectives
The lecture is dedicated to translation theory with focus on translation from French to Czech and vice versa. Main translation principles are verified and the fact is stressed that translation is more than mere transcription of one code system to another. Using several different dictionaries makes important part of this course.
Syllabus
  • 1) The concept of translation, literary and scientific translation - French and Czech concept.
  • 2) The traditional translation processes - borrowing, loan translation, literal translation
  • 3) The traditional translation processes - transposition, modulation, equivalence, adaptation.
  • 4) Some problems of literary translation.
  • 5) Some problems of professional translation.
  • 6) Language and cultural differences and their impact on translation 7) interpretive theory of translation (M. Lederer) 8) Interference in translation from French into Czech Lectures students on a given them.
