- The ideal, though not required, order of taking the courses is: Intro to Japanese Studies, THEN Japanese History, and THEN Japanese Literature.

- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to gain the fundamental overview about Japanese studies as a scientific branch, and that from two perspectives:
(1) Japanese studies as the sum of the knowledge about Japan
(2) Japanese studies as a science branch processing this knowledge, and its history
Based on these two perspectives, the student having attended this class will have a clear idea about the scope of aspects from which Japan can be known, and is aware of the context within both Czecho-Slovak and world research on Japan and its prominent figures. He or she will gain the most important knowledge that can be used as signposts in moulding his or her Japanological interest.

- Assessment methods
- Compulsory course attendance and a final test the results of which will give the final mark. The Japanese majoring students are required the minimum pass mark of 70% in the test.
