Course objectives
Japanese Language I. is an introductory course into the Japanese language and it deals with basic Japanese vocabulary and grammar. Initial classes are aimed at self-introduction and Japanese greetings, later the course deals with elementary Japanese grammar and vocabulary. Learning to read and write the Japanese syllabary hiragana is an essential part of the course. Attendance of the course Japanese Writing JAPX 101 is recommended. Proficiency in English lanuage is compulsory. By the end of the course, students should be able to introduce themselves formally in Japanese, as well as engage in elementary conversation and express their ideas in basic Japanese. They will be able to actively use the Japanese syllabary alphabet hiragana.

Teaching methods
Grammar explanation and drills.
Assessment methods
The course will be assessed after completing the final written examination, which will summarize the expressions and grammar learned throughout the course. The examination will focus on hiragana.
