- The main objectives of the course are the following:
understand of history of collecting and museums, cause of a collecting, preconditions of collecting (economical, cultural, etc.);
acquaiting students with the history of collecting in Ancient time and in Middle Ages;
identify collectors, collections, and house of collection on a collection of pictures; - Syllabus
- Introduction, subject, methodology, peridization, sources, literature.
- Why people collect, prerequisities of collecting - economical, cultural, political and social.
- History of collecting and museums - development of theory. Origins of collecting and collections.
- Colecting in Ancient time - Egypt, Mesopotamia, China, Japan.
- Collections and collecting in Ancient Greece and Rome - thesaurus, Mouseion, private collections.
- Christianity and collecting, influence of liturgy, treasury collections in Middle Ages, reliquiary and its typology, Charles IV., Jean de Berry, St. Vitus in Prague, Sant Denis in France etc.
- Prerequisities of collecting - 6. - 15. century.
- Renaissance and collections, secular collections.
