Course objectives
Lectures are oriented to the visual art in Europe from its beginnings to the first decades of the 16th century. The main objectives of the course are the following: acquainting students with the basic terms and categories of history of art, as well as with methodology of work of the art historian. An essay has to be written, interpreting a selected oeuvre or set of works.
Syllabus
  • Subject and methods of history of art.
  • Canon of beauty and aesthetic geometry.
  • Iconoclasm and iconoduly, religion and art.
  • Basic terminology: architecture, sculpture, painting.
  • Periodization of art and its interpretation on selected examples.
