- Course objectives
- Having completed the course, the students will be able to explain the pattern of the creation of Greek dispersion in the Czech Republic and the formation of the current Greek minority population in other countries as well. They will be able to describe the situation in Greek voluntary associations activities, they will be able to depict and describe Greek traditions, such as family and ritual cycle, music and dance folklore as well as the ethnic feeling of the current Greek population.
- Syllabus
- The aim of the lecture is to get the students acquainted with the history and causes of the arrival of Greek emigration to the Czech Republic, and wider familiarization with the ethnic aspects of the refugees. -arrival of Greek emigration: causes, course (children, adult emigration), settlement from the late 1940s up to the present, original and current home -repatriation and questions concerning this issue -ethnic structure of Greek emigration and its changes in time -organization, cultural activities - theatre and esp. folklore - dance, song, folklore dancing ensembles, music groups etc. (two lectures) - preservation and change of tradition - community and family -orthodox faith of the Greek community in the course of time, question of Greek priests in emigration and their influence on preserving traditions, weddings, baptisms, funerals -living Greek festivities and celebration -cuisine -language as an expression of ethnicity, education and knowledge within generations, literary authors belonging to the Greek community, tradition and ethnography in such literature -Lectures will be accompanied with photographic and audio-visual materials.
