Course objectives
This course is predominantly practical. It is designed to give students a chance to experience translating longer piece of text in real circumstances. The whole group of students will together translate a book which will be published by one of the Brno publishing houses at the end of the semester.
The selected book will be a general non-fiction genre. The group of students will have a shared responsibility to bring the text to a "publishabe" stage - with the help/support of the teacher.
Teaching methods
Weekly seminar; use of elf.
Active participation and translating at home is expected.
Assessment methods
Compulsory seminars. Students are expected to participate in class discussions. Regular preparation for classes is essential; submissions will be required. The completion of the course will involve finalization of the assigned part of the text for the book + written reflection of the whole translation process.
