- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is the analysis and the practice of basic morphological and syntactic phenomena of the normative Latin grammar necessary for understanding of self-contained Latin texts. At the end of the course students will be able to: demonstrate the knowledge of primary Latin grammar, read and translate the unknown texts.
- Syllabus
- Morphology: declensions of nouns; verbs: indicative of the present, imperfect and future tenses in active and passive voices; present infinitive; present participle; adjectives; basic forms of personal and possessive pronouns; adverbs; numerals. Syntax: constructions with two accusatives or nominative; a subject accusative + infinitive; time clauses (CUM HISTORICUM); independent uses of the subjunctive mood; UT clauses.

- Assessment methods
- The requirements for credit: class regular attendance (75%), passing two checking written tests (at least 65% in both tests together) and a final written test, where the knowledge of relevant grammar is examined (success rate of 65% for final test); students’ mastery of basic grammar is tested through a translation of Latin terms and sentences and through grammatical tasks.
