Course objectives
This course is focused at presentation of selected Russian thinkers´ ideas about aesthetics and theories of art. The aim of this course is to introduce the characteristics of several major authors whose thinking illustrates the important chapters of the history of Russian philosophical and artistic - critical thinking. As the main source for study we will use relevant texts of selected authors, which will be discussed and commented. Among the chosen authors will be: V. S. Solovyov, N. G. Chernyshevsky, L. N. Tolstoy, M. M. Bakhtin, L. S. Vygotsky, V. V. Kandinsky.

  • 1 / Introduction to Russian philosophy and specifics of Russian philosophical thought. The influence of Orthodox Christianity upon the question of aesthetics. The work of V. S. Solovyov, N. A. Berdyaev. 2 / Basics of aesthetic realism in works of the N. G. Chernyshevsky and V. G. Belinsky. 3 / Literary, philosophical and aesthetic views of L. N. Tolstoy. 4 / Terminology and ideas of formalism and literary theory. B. V. Shklovsky, M. M. Bakhtin. 5 / L. S. Vygotsky and psychological analysis of artwork. 6 / The beginnings of abstraction, V. V. Kandinsky and his theoretical work.
