Course objectives
The course will inform its students about two basic methods of qualitative research working with life history. They are the biographical method and oral history method which have been accepted in humanistic studies since late 1960s, namely in connection with the change in paradigm. As well as introducing the cornerstone works and theoretical foundations of both methods the course focuses on practical issues of carrying out field research using these methods and their application in ethnological and historical research. The topics will be complemented with seminars aimed at deepening the view of theoretical issues on the basis of selected example cases. Since most of the literature on this topic is in foreign languages, the knowledge of a foreign language (English or German) is essential for participating in this course.
